Turning Dreams Into Reality: Real Stories From Our Gardens

There’s something truly special about stepping outside and feeling as though you’ve entered an entirely new room of your home. I think of every garden I create as a canvas for a unique story—one where my clients are the main characters and the outdoor space becomes the backdrop for their favourite moments.

At Gardens of Distinction, we’ve helped countless families and garden enthusiasts throughout Coventry, Solihull, Warwickshire, Leamington Spa, Stratford upon Avon, Leicestershire, Northamptonshire, Oxfordshire, Buckinghamshire, and The Cotswolds experience just that. Each project is an opportunity for us to bring visions to life, combining bespoke design with skilled craftsmanship, ensuring every border, patio, and piece of timber is placed with thought and care.

Let me share a few of these journeys, as told by the people who trusted us with their gardens—and in doing so, perhaps inspire you to see how your outdoor space could become the heart of your home.

Our Passion For Detail (And Why It Matters To You)

From my first conversation with a new client, I make it my priority to understand exactly how they want to use their garden. Is it a peaceful retreat for quiet reflection, a vibrant space for family gatherings, an area for alfresco dining, or a bit of everything?

Julie Kay’s story is one I often remember. She came to me craving a garden that could welcome wildlife and be enjoyed year-round—an inviting, stylish extension of her living space. We pored over every detail, from installing necessary drainage to the finishing touches of carefully selected planting. Each oak pillar and shrub was chosen to ensure natural beauty and harmony.

Julie now describes her garden as an extra “room” for her home—one that’s enjoyable in every season and is already attracting birds and hedgehogs. Knowing I’ve helped create a space where nature and people thrive together is enormously rewarding.

Tom Glenn’s experience echoes these sentiments. He trusted me with a blank canvas—every designer’s dream! Planning was meticulous: we thought through each micro decision, including the placement of plants for sunlight and viewing angles, choosing stones and features with the client’s input guiding the way. Tom now enjoys not only a striking garden but the confidence that every aspect, from the transitions between areas to plant selections, was considered and discussed. His gratitude and intention to return prove how impactful a personalised approach can be.

The Magic Of Seating Areas: Comfort, Function, & Style

One area our clients consistently cherish is their new seating space. A well-designed seating area shouldn’t just look beautiful—it should feel like a natural extension of the home.

I’ve learnt from countless projects that thoughtful positioning and sizing are everything. A patio shaded most of the day, thanks to poor planning, is sadly common— I’ve corrected this oversight in many gardens! That’s why I pay close attention to sun patterns, daily use, and how the space will evolve through the seasons.

For example, seating areas adjacent to bifold doors are often made too small. Many don’t realise that just walking out requires at least a metre and, for comfortable dining and lounging, a clear width of four metres is often ideal. It’s not uncommon for a well-planned space to reach five metres in depth to guarantee comfort for family and guests alike.

For more intimate moments, smaller seating areas offer charm and a chance to be surrounded by lush plants. I especially enjoy integrating these secluded spots, where close friends can share a quiet conversation or a book can be read in peace, all while wrapped in greenery.

Sometimes, the best place for an entertaining area is right in the heart of the garden. Clients love gathering around a fire pit or barbecue where the smoke won’t drift back through their lovely bifolds, and everyone is immersed in beautiful planted borders. These decisions, big and small, all contribute towards making a garden not just attractive, but truly usable every day.

Your Vision, Our Expertise: How We Collaborate

For Nicky Brown, the journey began with a simple wish: a patio where she could catch more sun. By working closely, we crafted a garden that suited both her preferences and her budget. Communication was at the heart of our process—I kept her informed every step of the way, from delivery dates to installation. The end result was a space that completely fulfilled her desires, all within the timeframe we promised.

It’s not just about construction and planting; it’s about listening and sharing knowledge too. When Reena P reached out, her project hadn’t yet started, but she left our consultation armed with advice to address hidden issues in her new build garden. Her words about the value of that guidance—before even lifting a trowel—encapsulate what I aim to provide for every prospective client: reassurance and clarity.
