This garden design project transformed a damaged, worn landscape that was prone to flooding into a stunning modern retreat. The landscape required a complete renovation to get it into a suitable state for our client, and the team at Gardens of Distinction delivered everything from the garden design to the paving and pergola installation to create an outdoor space our clients can be proud of.
Project Overview
Transforming this tired garden into a modern oasis was essential, as the space had become unusable with damage over time. The patio in the top left corner was crumbling, and the slope of the garden caused water to pool, creating hazards on the pathway during rain. The ageing shed was on the brink of collapse and needed to be removed.
Our clients dreamed of a chic outdoor space that they could truly enjoy, and had specifically requested a stunning water feature to enhance the garden’s appeal.
We envisioned a sleek, contemporary design characterised by clean lines to make the most out of the available space and create a functional environment for our client.
Grey Limestone Paving
To create a modern garden design, we chose Meli grey limestone for the paving. Due to the poor condition of the landscape, we needed to excavate the existing paving and create a new structure for the last. We elevated the garden using levels, which increases both visual appeal and functionality of the space.
To address drainage issues, we installed new Acco drains to effectively manage excess water.

This garden design is full of eye-catching details to create interest and make the most out of the available space. Some of the best features within this garden design include the two feature steps, an elegant pergola to make the seating area suitable for all weather use, and the stylish Corten steel planters.
For additional visual appeal and ambience, we sourced a unique slate water feature, richly veined in orange, to perfectly complement the Corten steel’s natural patina.
Minimalist Planting Scheme
To finish off the design, we installed a minimalist planting scheme with exquisite white Japanese anemones and hydrangeas.
Sprawling Erigerons, modern grasses and vibrant salvias were incorporated into the planters, crafting a cohesive and inviting atmosphere that the clients can be proud of.
