Garden Design Transformation, Warwickshire

This was a full garden design and renovation for our clients in Warwickshire, where we transformed a worn concrete yard into a beautiful retreat. The garden had previously been used as a driveway and was very run-down, so the family needed our expertise to achieve a garden they could use and admire.

Project Overview

For this project, Gardens of Distinction provided a complete garden design and installation. As the garden had previously been used as a driveway, it required a lot of construction and creativity to achieve the back garden retreat our client desired.

This project included fencing, drainage installation, planting and turfing.

Fencing & Drainage

The existing garden needed to be excavated, which allows us to install Acco Drains. This would prevent water pooling near the house and keep the garden free from floods. The existing manhole cover was raised and is now hidden in the raised planters.

We also replaced the old, worn fencing, which we discovered was being supported by a plastic water bottle and was therefore very unstable. To give the garden a modern appearance, we used slat fencing.

Low-Maintenance Planting Schemes

As this garden is north-facing, it experiences a lot of shade and our planting schemes needed to accommodate this. For this garden design, we rely on shade-tolerant and low-maintenance plants, which ensure the garden always looks lush and attractive.

To keep up with these low-maintenance requirements, we installed artificial turfing, which ensures the garden always looks fresh.

These plants have been installed in the new raised sleeper beds, which we have installed following a full excavation of the concrete.

Paving & Garden Features

Natural stone paving has been used throughout this garden design. The patio and pathways have been edged with tumbled regular blocks for contrast and to provide a clear finish to the garden.

Due to the unstable ground, we needed to create levels to the garden using hard landscaping features such as the paving, patio and raised planters. A pergola has also been installed to add height to the garden design, support climbing plants and add shade to the black ice chipping seating area.

The focal point in this garden design is the corten steel water feature, which provides a tranquil ambient sound to the landscape.
