Garden Design, Warwickshire
This was a challenging garden design project in Warwickshire as the existing landscape presented several major challenges from the outset. The plot was exceptionally large for a newly built house and had many angles, along with varying ground levels to contend with.
To accommodate this, we have developed an unusual garden design that has now transformed the landscape into a stunning, usable space for our clients.
Project Overview
For this garden design, Gardens of Distinction had to incorporate unusual angles to accommodate the challenges of the landscape. As well as tackling the uneven ground, we added style and interest to the garden through new fencing, paving and a focal water feature.
Angled Natural Stone Paving
Natural stone paving was chosen for this garden design, and it has to be installed at 45 degrees to the property to complement the space and ensure a cohesive appearance to the garden.
To overcome the drop in levels to the right-hand side of the property, we built a retaining wall with a 15 cm buffer between our wall and the neighbour’s property boundary, as per building regulations.
The feature patio in this garden design is the main entertainment space and therefore a central piece of the layout. Artificial lawn was the client’s preferred choice, which we installed and incorporated into the surrounding natural stone set path.
Drainage Installation & Fencing
Drainage was another issue we had to deal with, so we installed acco drains along the perimeter of the main paved area to take away excess surface water. Which was then fed into a pipe and taken away to a soak-away crate at the top of the garden.
A modern slat fence was built to conceal the fence lines.
Water Feature & Planting Schemes
We installed a spiral water feature as the key focal point in this garden design. This is angled so there is a clear sightline from the conservatory, which has an easy access route throughout the garden and to the primary patio space.
The feature patio is surrounded by established planting on all sides to create a sense of being cocooned by plants and nature.
