Garden Design, Kenilworth

This garden design project primarily revolved around fixing another landscaping company’s mistakes, which were revealed to us early on in the process. Despite these mistakes, this landscape, which had a lot of potential, was completely transformed by our creative design team.

The garden is now a diverse, vibrant landscape that is comfortable for our clients to sit and enjoy, as it is no longer as exposed to the wind.

Project Overview

We quickly recognised the great potential of this landscape during our first visit to the property. A previous landscaping company had installed a raised mound, which worsened the wind problem.

Additionally, there was a ha-ha on one side of the perimeter and a pile of rocks in the middle of the area.

Our design approach was radical to remedy these issues. We proposed removing the mound and the ha-ha while repurposing the rocks. The plan included winding paths, abstract-shaped planting beds and two feature patios.

Soil Excavation & Drainage Installation

We had to remove a significant amount of soil from the mound, exceeding 130 tonnes, and we installed a new twin-wall drainage system. These discreet drainage pipes prevent potential flooding from the adjacent field.

Garden Focal Points & Patios

We installed two feature patios made of antique limestone, which beautifully complement the tones of the brickwork. A new hedgerow has been installed to secure privacy in the garden and shield views from the driveway.

We repurposed a water feature from the existing landscape and installed it as a focal point of the new design.

This is a diverse, engaging outdoor space with multiple points of interest. We also created a rock feature area using existing materials, and sourced a vintage tractor which will serve as a centrepiece. This is a stunning, personalised focal point which keeps with the property’s name and enhances the rustic, farmhouse style of the location.

Planting Scheme

A key feature of this garden design is the diverse planting scheme. Along the perimeter of the garden, we selected three indigenous trees, along with a couple of feature specimens, such as a Japanese acer and a rhus typhina tree, to ensure visual interest throughout the year.

The complete planting design features ornamental grasses, alliums, ornamental thistles and verbascums to create a natural feel in the garden.
